APLCC Meeting January 9, 2013

Hello, everyone.

I'd like to wish all of you a very Happy New Year and all the best in 2013

The next APLCC meeting is on Wednesday January 9, 2013, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the Lebovic Room of the Aurora Public Library.  The following activities are on the agenda:

MONTHLY CHALLENGE

We will critique the images for this month's challenge, Holiday Lights/Colour.  I encourage anyone who has not done so to upload an image for discussion.  Some wonderful images have been uploaded already but there are a number of people who have yet to submit an image.  Remember that each member can upload a total of three images, but it is not a requirement that you upload three.  One or two are fine.  It would be great if we could get at least one image from each person.  Anyone who is having difficulty with the upload process can email me at reelstories@rogers.com and I will walk you through it.

TIPS & TRICKS

Doug Underwood and Deborah Barley are going to do a brief "Tips & Tricks" presentation.

PHOTO ESSAY

This is a new APLCC activity.  Deborah Barley and Doug Underwood were kind enough to be the first to volunteer for this.  They will present their photo essays on a particular theme or subject and tell the story behind their images and the workflow involved in getting them.

HDR APPLICATIONS

I will do a brief tour of a number of open-source HDR applications and will illustrate the workflow involved in using at least one or two of the applications.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday January 9.

Regards,

Ronen

APL Camera Club Monthly Challenge and Walkabout

Hello.

Thanks to everyone who made it to the November 29 meeting.  It was great to see you all there.

MONTHLY CHALLENGE

The monthly challenge for the January 9 meeting is Holiday Colour/Lights.  The APLCC website is ready to accept your images so head out this festive season and capture some colour and lights!

DECEMBER WALKABOUT

Some of us may want to photograph the lights and colour of the holidays on a walkabout in downtown Toronto on Saturday, December 15 from 4:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., approximately. It would be nice to get together and shoot since there is no library meeting in December. Some of the places we could go include:

·Yonge to Elm Street, Yonge-Dundas Square

·Nathan Phillips Square

·Harbourfront Centre

·Bay and Bloor

Since this is a very busy time of year, I would like to get a sense of how many people would be interested in doing this before I set up a signup on the website.  Please email me at reelstories@rogers.com by Wednesday, December 12 if you would like to participate.

Regards,

Ronen

November 29, 2012 Meeting Reminder

This is a reminder that the next meeting of the APL Camera Club will be on November 29 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Lebovic Room of the Aurora Public Library.

MONTHLY CHALLENGE

Very few people have uploaded images for the monthly challenge.  This month members have a choice of two challenges:  "What We Want" and/or "Reflections." Do your best to upload an image or two so that we have something to discuss.  Even if you cannot come up with an image that falls into either one of the categories, I still suggest that you upload an image that you would like to discuss during the meeting.

MEETING AGENDA

  • Winter Walkabout Discussion
  • Monthly Challenge -- What We Want/Reflections
  • HDR photography
  • Next month's challenges

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Thanks to everyone who attended the first meeting of the 2012-2013 session.  It was great to see you all!

Our next meeting will be on November 29th.  Because of the Christmas holidays there will not be a meeting in December.  Instead we will be having two meetings in January, specifically on Wednesday January 9th and Thursday January 31.

MONTHLY CHALLENGE

I’ve been thinking about the monthly challenge and I'm going to make a slight modification.  In the past, we had one challenge topic per month.  Now, you can choose between two topics each month or contribute images to both. One topic will be more challenging than the other.  Members will still be able to upload a total of three images per month for the monthly challenge.

For the next meeting the challenge topics are "Things we want" and "Reflections.”  “Reflections” photos can include things like reflections in water, glass, mirrors, or more abstract images that reflect on something.  “Things we want” can include images or things that you would like to buy or own, or more abstract desires, such as peace on earth.

The monthly challenge gallery is ready for your images.  Looking forward to seeing your shots!

All the best.

Revised Date of APLCC Meeting

As it turns out the October 31st revised date for the APLCC meeting was not a good day for a number of people because it conflicted with their Halloween plans.

Consequently, I managed to reschedule the first meeting to Thursday November 8 in the Magna room of the Aurora Public Library.  We will still meet between 7 - 8:30p.m.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 8th of November.

Regards,

Ronen

APLCC Fall 2012 Agenda

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you've all had a wonderful summer and that you've been out there taking all sorts of photographs which you're ready to share and discuss with other members of the APLCC.

We're going to have the first meeting of 2012-2013 on October 25th.  We will continue to meet on the last Thursday of the month.  I will put the dates of this year's meetings on the APLCC website calendar.

My goal is to continue what we started last year with monthly challenges, tutorials and workshops, as well as guest speakers.  I'm hoping that members will submit suggestions and ideas of topics that they'd like to cover at the meetings.

FALL WALKABOUT

Since fall is a great time of year for photography, it would be a shame to let it go without a walkabout.  I'm going to schedule a walkabout for Saturday October 13 between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm.  The place I have in mind is the Thornton Bales Conservation Area where the colors are spectacular during the fall.  It is about a 20 minute drive from the Tim Hortons located next to St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic School and I think it would be a great place for us to visit.  I have set up a registration page with more specific details so if you're interested please make sure to sign up so that I can get a sense of how many people will participate in this.  You can also find a link to the registration page on the front page of the APLCC website (www.aplcameraclub.webhop.org) or under the calendar pull-down menu.

Cheltenham Badlands - August 12 Reminder

Hello Everyone,

This is a reminder that the Cheltenham Badlands walkabout is slated for Sunday August 12.  If you would like to participate in this activity please don't forget to sign up here.  Just a reminder that you will not be able to see the signup form until you're logged in.

Because our usual Tim Hortons meet up place is under renovation, for this particular trip we will meet at the Tim Hortons on Bayview Avenue (15360 Bayview Ave).  We will meet at the usual time -- 9:30 am.

I see this walkabout as a bit of an adventure since I have never been at the Cheltenham Badlands.  All I know about it is what I've read on the web.  From what I gather it is quite a place and definitely a photo opportunity.  I would estimate that we will probably not stay for more than an hour and a half at the badlands (unless, of course, there is more to see there than I realize).  Assuming that an hour and a half is going to be the upper limit of our stay I have taken it upon myself to make some plans on what we should do after our time here.

So here is the itinerary:

High Park & Roncesvalles Walkabout Information

This is a quick reminder that the High Park & Roncesvalles walkabout will be taking place tomorrow (July 28)  9:30am to 4:00pm.

As usual, we will meet at Tim Hortons located at 304 Wellington Street East and will proceed from there.  From what I understand there are some renovations happening at this Tim Hortons which means that the main eating area is closed.  You can still buy coffee and stuff, however, from a trailer that's been set up.  Let's plan on meeting somewhere near the trailer.  I will be there a bit early and will keep an eye out for people.

At this point the following people have signed up for the walkabout:

  1. Ronen
  2. Rhodri
  3. Jytte
  4. Anna
  5. Rick
  6. Moon & Curtis
  7. Don
  8. Beverley

Here is the basic outline for the day:

  1. Meet at Tim Hortons at 9:30 and be on the road by about 10:00am
  2. Arrive at High Park by around 11:00am and do a walkabout there till about 1:00pm.
  3. Go for lunch at The Butler's Pantry at 1:15pm (by the way, I made reservations for the group so hopefully everything will be ready for us when we arrive).  We'll probably end up staying at the Butler's Pantry till about 2:30pm or so.
  4. After lunch we will walk down Roncesvalles to the lake.
  5. We will make our way back home by 4:00pm

As far as the weather is concerned it looks like we'll probably have a pretty good day.  According to the weather network there is a slight chance of light rain in the morning but it's supposed to clear off before noon.

Looking forward to seeing you all Saturday morning.

Ronen
