May 28, 2015 Monthly Challenge -- William Eggleston Inspired

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick note on the Monthly Challenge for the May 28, 2015 meeting.

This month's challenge is inspired by the photography of William Eggleston.  His style is to capture everyday objects and moments.  He does not shy away from making the banalities of day-to-day life front and centre of his photographs.  So much so, in fact, that his photographs were once described as being inhabited by  "dismal figures inhabiting a commonplace world of little visual interest."  When asked to describe his photographs and his inspiration Eggleston commented that the best he can come up with is "Life Today".

So for this month's challenge you have two options:  "Life Today" and "Banal and Ordinary".

Here's the PowerPoint presentation from last month's meeting with more information and some photographs by William Eggleston:

Here's a YouTube Video (The Art of Photography) discussing Eggleston's aesthetic and use of colour:

The Monthly Challenge Gallery is ready for your Eggleston-inspired "Everyday Life" and "Banal and Ordinary" images.  Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Regards,

Ronen
