APL Camera Club Holiday Greeting and New Website

Hi everyone,

I just want to wish everyone a wonderful and joyous holiday season and all the best in the new year.

I also want to remind everyone that the next camera club meeting will be on January 4 between 7 and 9 PM in the Magna room of the Aurora public library. We usually meet in the Lebovic room but for this meeting we will be in the Magna room as it will provide more area for the hands-on activity which we have planned.

Which brings me to the agenda of the next meeting. Basically we are going to have a session where you will learn how to photograph portraits. I will send you more details closer to the meeting, but I will tell you right now that for this activity you will need to bring your camera as well as a fully charged battery.

On a final note I would like to announce that the APL camera club's website has been updated with a brand-new look and a number of added features. Please take a look at it and email me if you encounter any bugs or issues. The plan is to use the website a lot more in the future. To access the site please use the following URL:

http://aplcameraclub.webhop.org

On behalf of myself and the members of the steering committee be well, have a wonderful holiday, and we're looking forward to seeing you all in the new year.

APLCC Meeting Reminder--November 30th 2017

Hi everyone,

Just a quick reminder that the next meeting of the APL camera club will take place on November 30, 2017 between 7 and 9 PM in the Lebovic Room of the Aurora public library.

The following is on the agenda:

This meeting is going to be devoted to Angela Durante Dukat's demonstration of how to do one light portraitures.  This demonstration is going to take most if not all of the time that we have which means that we will postpone the critique for the monthly challenge until the following meeting.

In her demonstration Angela will discuss and exhibit her one light portraits as well as do a hands-on demonstration of how to take portraits with a simple one light set up.

If you have any questions please email Ronen at reelstories@rogers.com.

Looking forward to seeing you all this coming Thursday.

First APLCC Meeting of the Season Scheduled for October 26, 2017

Hi Everyone,

After a very long break the time has finally arrived for the first APL Camera Club meeting of the season.  The meeting is scheduled for Thursday October 26, between 7-9pm in the Lebovic Room of the Aurora Public Library.  We've got a whole bunch of new and exciting things planned for this season.  There are also going to be some changes, which you will find out more about at the meeting.

In preparation for the upcoming session there's a short survey that I would like you all to fill out.  It shouldn't take more than a few minutes but I would ask you all to please have it filled out a couple of days before the meeting.  This survey is to help the APLCC Steering Committee better understand the needs of the members so that activities and workshops can be tailored to meet those needs and interests. There will be a presentation on the night of the meeting detailing your responses.  Here's a link to the survey:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVgbAVriWxrn4W8C2wc7rCJwvdqwM_...

I will be sending a more detailed itinerary of what's planned for the first session a couple of days prior to the meeting.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 26th.

Cheers,

Ronen

Snapshot Aurora and APL Camera Club

Hi Everyone,

Are you interested in leaving a mark on Aurora's history?  If so, this is the project for you!

A while back at one of our meetings I talked about the Snapshot Aurora project that's being undertaken by the Aurora Museum and Archives, which I agreed the APL Camera Club would participate in.

Basically, the idea is to capture photographs of the people of Aurora in front of their homes or businesses with the purpose of archiving these images for future reference.  The inspiration for the project is Canada's 150th birthday as well as the front yard portraits and images so popular at the turn of the century.

It would be great if you could fully participate.  But, if you prefer, you could just take your family's photograph in front of your home. Ultimately, we'll collect these images and submit them to the Aurora Museum and Archives. The timeline for working on this project is between September and November 2017, but it would be great to get a list of people who are interested ahead of time.   Here's a visual from the Aurora Museum and Archives website with information about the project.

And don't worry, if you do participate you won't have to go out and solicit people and businesses on your own. There will be a coordinated effort by the Aurora Museum and Archives to get people and businesses to participate.

The APL Camera Club will be given the names of individuals and businesses who have signed up, and  then those members who have agreed to participate will go out and take the photographs.

APLCC Meeting Reminder for May 25, 2017

Hi Everyone,

This is a quick reminder that the last meeting of the season will be held on May 25th between 7-9pm in the Lebovic Room of the Aurora Public Library.

There are two things on the agenda:

  1. Monthly Challenge Critique -- You have two options for the Monthly Challenge:  either "On the Street" or "Home".  The Monthly Challenge Gallery is ready to receive your images so please upload ASAP.
  2. End of the season social --  Since this is the last meeting of the season I thought that we could just schmooze a bit before saying goodbye for the summer.  In light of this, it would be nice if people could bring some snacks.  If everyone could bring a little bit we'll have more than enough. If you can contribute something please let me know.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday.

APLCC Reminder -- Bring Your Camera

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick reminder that the camera club will be meeting on April 27 between 7-9pm in the Lebovic Room of the Aurora Public Library.

There are two things on the agenda:

  1. Photographer of the Month -- A very interesting and provocative photographer will be profiled.  I'll leave who it is as a surprise.  All I'll say is that in all likelihood you'll either love this guy or hate him!  And yes, it is a male photographer.  smiley
  2. Exposure Triangle Hands-On Activity -- We'll spend a good part of the meeting taking photographs using the manual mode of the camera.  Please bring your DSLRs and if you can a tripod as well.  I'll only need a few tripods, but I only have one.  So if you have a tripod that you can bring it will definitely be helpful.

Please send any questions to reelstories@rogers.com

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

APLCC Meeting Reminder for April 27, 2017

Hi Everyone,

I sent this newsletter about a week ago but a couple of people said that they did not receive it.  If you can, please send me a quick email confirmation to let me know that you got this message.

Just a quick update on what's coming up.

The next APLCC meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 27 between 7-9pm in the Lebovic room of the Aurora Public Library.

EXPOSURE TRIANGLE

Since we didn't finish the hands-on part of the exposure triangle at the last meeting this is what we'll be focusing on in April.  So please bring your cameras and any props that you would like to photograph.  I will be providing props as well, but if there's something specific that you'd like to photograph please bring it along.  I'll set up stations around the room where people can go and experiment.

PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE MONTH

As well as the hands-on exposure triangle session I will do a brief presentation on a photographer.  I have a really interesting photographer in mind.   I think most people will find this photographer amusing, disturbing, and provocative.  I know I certainly did!  I'll keep who it is a surprise so that you'll get the full impact.  laugh
