I processed 5 of the bracketed shots through Photomatix Essentials HDR, using its 'Photographic' preset and then further enhanced select areas in the PSE editor.

I altered selected areas with adjustments to their exposures and saturation .. to produce emphasis to the 'sun ray' area and surrounding areas of forest.
