I had lots of fun shooting incognito. I used the LCD and shot mostly from the hip. Some I shot while walking by.

Thanks for all the nice compliments. Shannon is at the Optometrist she goes to. I guess I helped pay for that sign she is standing at :)

Hello Doug

His Name is Klaus and He goes to Many outing throughout the year it is always nice to run into Him.

Wish I had run into You I spent over four hours there Doug, Good You got out to it.

The Auroran ran the Headline the rain Didn't dampen the Street Sale I think it could have poured and it would not have mattered it was one to remember I have been to everyone of them, it is a Great Event in this Town.

Haha it is funny I didn't see you that day since I have seen you twice driving home from work. Both times near McKenzie's Marsh. I see you haven't returned the 70-210mm yet :)

Rain didn't stop me. Only ran into Rhodri but he had his camera in a bag staying dry.

Yes I find that odd that I did not run into You, it took Me two days to come down from the shooting high I was on from the street sale I really enjoyed that day and if that was not enough I went to McKenzie marsh after that for a few hours, It was hard to stop shooting that day, I have been living at the marsh this week and it has been quite rewarding and I can see We are blessed to have that place in this town and it looks as if it is working very well as a complete marsh inspite of the Humans. I did hear a horn or two honk and I was disappointed I did not run into anyone from the Club at the Marsh but I was speaking with several People and spoke to them about the club We need those cards and I am going to make up interm cards till 30 people decide what to do because it would take less time to explain and as well the individual would be more apt to remember with hard copy and One can get back to taking pictures

the more time spent there the more You see there and there is everything there that a Marsh is supposed to have.

No Doug I have not returned that piece of glass and at this point You would have to pry it from my still warm dead hands, I also added a 2x extender to it, and if that was not enough Gentec who service Sigma warranty decided after the third time back to replace the Sigma 70-200 2.8 not stabilized outright and do You know what They sent Me? Come on Guess Doug!!! That's RIGHT they sent Me a current copy of a

70-200 2.8 Stabilized Job so now I am swimming in top notch glass and the shootin is great!!! BLESS THEM!!!

I tried the 2x Canon extender on the Sigma Glass and that works well to, Sigma glass is nothing to sneeze at.

Shooting Style at the Street Sale

Hello again Doug

I tried to get the shot that said the individual knew they were getting in frame and I employed some of that sort of style We saw in the film Ronen presented at the last meeting as I ran two cameras and I think You can see in the post I put up that many know I was shooting them, the gear gave Me some Cashe and several People ask who I was representing so I told them I represented the Club and this months challenge was street Photography and as well I got a few groups that I am sending pictures to and Klaus is one of them, as well I made up a shorter slide show DVD like the one I gave You but no music and took that to the Chamber of Commerce in a brazen attempt to hang a shingle out next year perhaps as an official Shooter, here's hoping that goes Well!

Dragonfly

Hey Doug,

Excellent image of the Dragonfly, nicely focused and the colors work well.

It's hard to get a sense of size, but I would guess that the flower is fairly large and consequently so is the Dragonfly. Am I correct?

Green Darner

I looked at the flower and it is around 1.5 " to 2"

I shot it while BBQing and managed to not burn the steaks while multitasking.

It was the best shot out of around a dozen.

I really made use of the focus peaking on this one to get the tail, wings and head in focus by tilting the camera. I'm really liking this feature.

Ok Doug, now I'm Jealous!

Those are amazing macro shots. Beautifully blurred backgrounds and extremely effective selective focus. I also love the rich colors of you images. Did you up the saturation somewhat or do any other kind of image processing?

My favourites:

Which way Up? Love the sharpness of the insect and the beautiful color of the background which works really well with the yellow of the flower.
The Purple Flower with drops of water. I love the way the water lines up in a row.

I rechecked al my edits and no saturation. Mostly a touch of clarity and some I add a touch +8 of vibrancy. Next I usually adjust the tone sliders. Oh and crops.

Did you take that 5D out of the box yet :)

Well, whatever you're doing your images look great...

Yes, I've been playing extensively with the 5D for the past few days. There's a lot to learn. The Canon paradigm is quite a bit different from the Panasonic and I have to get used to it. I'm pretty much getting the hang of it though.

I bought the SlingShot 302 AW Camera Bag for it from B&H. Went to Henry's to buy it and it was $159.00 before tax! At B&H it's $80.95. With shipping, tax, duties etc comes to $110.00. Crazy difference in price.

Your second photo in - the purple flower at merlins hollow - amazing! I love the 3 large water drops that look like they might bounce off at any time and the flower looks very felt like - I really love the macro (for all the pics as well!)

The bird is a Female great Blue Heron preening in the morning light.

I really like the photo as well. Almost missed this photo when I went by it first pass but saw it on a second pass through the images

I really love MothMan and the light painting images as well.

Was the moth alive when you photographed it and how big was it in real life? I'm assuming that you used your macro lens to get that.

Would love to know some of the details.

MothMan Image Rocks...

Thanks Ronen.

The moth was alive and in his daytime sleeping mode. We transferred him from the tent screen onto a piece of kindling. It just stayed there and let us shoot. It was around an inch or so in size. Eyes were barely visible until we looked at the final images.

It was the 100mm macro, tripod, cable release and natural light.

The light painting was lots of fun. I'm going to give it another go.

I love the new images you posted!

Heron Sunset--Where and how did you get this image? It is really beautiful. I love the color of the sky and the shape of the branches and of course the silhouette of the Heron.

Great Blue Male--Another wonderful image. Again, a beautiful background that really works to enhance the image and provides an excellent context for the bird. I also love the reflection in the almost-still water.

I'd love to know where these images were taken, time of day, kind of lens used, and whether or not any cropping was involved.

Heron shots

All these images are McKenzie Marsh.

The Heron Sunset was the tree looking towards the retirement home. It was just around 8:00pm and shot with the Zeiss 16-80mm lens. This shot did need cropping. Too many branches and Heron was too small.

The male Heron was shot after the sun had dropped below the retirement home. Interesting at this time the colors of the feathers really pop. Through the naked eye it actually looks like its too dark to shoot. This was shot with my Sigma 150-500mm at 1/60sec, F6.3, 500mm at 400 ISO, Tripod and cable release These birds move nice and slow as they stalk their meal so you are able to slow things down for a great shot. Crop on this was making it a portrait instead of the landscape.

I was happy to get my first monarch of the year. I love them since they remind me of my summers as a kid.

The boardwalk is going around a grassy section with a small pond. It's pretty new and hasn't grown much yet. I'm hoping they dig it out to make a small pond.

Snow Images

It's great to see that you had the opportunity to go out and get some photographs of the amazing covering of snow. As I was driving to work I saw all these great opportunities for some outstanding photographs but traffic made it impossible to stop.

How did you get these images? Did you go out early in the morning? I would assume so, since the snow covering the branches didn't last for long.

Whatever the case, they're really well done. I especially like Mallards in the Snow.
