APLCC Meeting Reminder for February 23, 2017

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick reminder that the next APL Camera Club meeting will be held on February 23rd between 7-9pm in the Lebovic Room of the Aurora Public Library.

Just a couple of things for you guys to consider before the meeting:

ONE BOOK ONE AURORA PROJECT

At the last meeting I mentioned the possibility of exploring the topic of aging (one of the themes in Natural Order, the OBOA book choice for this year) through a series of portraits of people who are in the later stages of life.  As mentioned at the meeting, access to people who would be willing to pose for their portraits would be made available to us.  I think it's possible to do something quite creative with this.  The end goal will be to exhibit the images at the library and possibly other places.  I need at 4-5 people willing to participate in the project for it to work.  I would appreciate it if you would send me a personal email at reelstories@rogers.com if you'd like to participate.  I would also appreciate it very much if you'd send me a response in the next week or so as I have to get back to the organizers of One Book One Aurora on whether we're going to undertake this challenge.

MONTHLY CHALLENGE

There are two options for this month's challenge:  Broken and Manipulate the Image.

Broken -- For this you can either focus on something that is literally broken or think of broken as a metaphor.  For example, a photograph of a person who looks unhappy and despondent would fit into this category since the photo suggests there is something going on that seems to have broken the person's spirit.  You're welcome to use your imagination for this challenge.

Manipulate the Image --  This challenge is based on the Steve McCurry discussion we had at the last meeting.  The idea here will involve the following:

  • Photograph something...your choice.
  • Manipulate your image in some way -- using Photoshop, Gimp, or whatever program you want.
  • Upload the manipulated image to the Monthly Challenge Gallery.
  • Send me the original image as an attachment via email.  At the meeting we will compare the two and I will do a reveal of the original to the group.
  • Be prepared to explain the how and whys of the manipulation.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 23rd of February.  I will send you another reminder closer to the meeting.

Don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
