APLCC Update - July 18, 2012

JULY 14 WALKABOUT -- DOORS OPEN AURORA

Thank you to everyone who came on the Doors Open Aurora walkabout.  Despite the fact that the vintage cars display (the main reason why the Guildwood Park walkabout was postponed) was quite a let down, the Hillary House tour and the Trumpeter Swan Gardens made up for it.

I have set up a "Doors Open Aurora -- July 14" heading under the Activities Gallery for people to post the photos they took during this walkabout.  I'm looking forward to seeing what you've got.

JULY 28 WALKABOUT ITINERARY

The July 28th walkabout will be to High Park and Roncesvalles, a wonderfully historic part of Toronto located in the west end.  Both High Park and Roncesvalles are Toronto landmarks and represent an important part of Toronto's heritage.  Here is the itinerary for this walkabout:

APLCC Summer Activities 2012

APLCC SUMMER ACTIVITIES

I've set up the summer walkabout itinerary for the following places and dates.  There is a bit of information about each of the places and a Google map on the signup sheet.  Click on each of the following links to go to the signup page:

As usual the plan is to meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Tim Horton's on Wellington (304 Wellington Street East), next to St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic School, in Aurora. Rides can be arranged at that time for those who need them.

I would request that those who are interested in participating in any of the walkabouts sign up as soon as possible so that I can get a sense of how many people will be going.  Remember that the sign up form is only available when you're logged in.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments about any one of these activities please post them in the comments section.

Cheers,

Ronen

Impromptu Walkabout -- June 16

Hi Everyone,

This may be a bit of a short notice for some of you but Sean De Jardine wants people know that he will be going downtown on Saturday June 16th to get some on the street images for the next monthly challenge and he would love to have other club members join him.  If anyone is interested please let Sean know at dubhghaill@live.ca and sign up on the signup form that I set up here.  Just remember that you need to be logged into your account to see the form and register.

At this point the idea is to meet at the usual Tim Horton's on Wellington next to the St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School and travel downtown from there.  If we could get a few people together it could be a fun outing.

Looking forward to seeing some of you on Saturday.

Regards,

Ronen

APLCC Update - June 27, 2012

Hello Everyone,

NEXT MEETING

I have arranged for us to have a summer meeting on Thursday July 12 in the Aurora Public Library Optimist Room, which is located inside the library.  The meeting will be between 7:00 pm - 8:45 pm.   Just be aware that there will be no June meeting.  On the agenda for the July 12 meeting will be a  discussion on the summer Walkabout itinerary, critiquing of  the "On The Street" monthly challenge images, as well as a brief look at the principles of HDR and software to use for HDR photography.

NEW LOGO

As many of you have probably noticed the new APL Camera Club logo is now live!  Many thanks to Deborah Barley who volunteered her time to design the logo,  the membership card, as well as the APLCC information card.  I have posted all of these on the front page of the website for you to look at.

WALKABOUT ITINERARY

I will be working on an itinerary for the summer walkabouts.  The following places are a possibility:

  • St. Jacobs & Elora Gorge
  • Scarborough Bluffs
  • Sharon Temple
  • Mono Cliffs
  • Guildwood Park Scarborough
  • High Park & Roncessvales
  • Cheltenham Badlands
  • Mcleans Auto Wreckers

I will post a definitive schedule in the next couple of weeks.  If anyone has any more ideas for good places to photograph, and which are relatively easy to access, please post it on the forum in the Interesting Places for Outings thread.

APLCC June 2nd Walkabout Update

JUNE 2nd WALKABOUT

Those people who were not present at the May 31 APLCC meeting please be aware that where we will meet for the June 2nd walkabout has been changed from the Tim Horton's on Wellington to in front of the Cachet Restaurant + Bar located at 500 Water Street, Newmarket.  The revised time for meeting is 10:30am.

MONTHLY CHALLENGE

The monthly challenge for the upcoming month is "On the Street".  The new category has been added and the APLCC website is ready to accept your uploads.

JUNE MEETING

As discussed at the May 31 meeting I am not sure the Lebovic room has been booked for a June meeting.  I will attempt to get it booked if it is not  and will send a brief newsletter with an update in the next week or so.  If there is a June meeting I will also post  it on the APLCC calendar.

Whether or not a meeting will take place, we will continue to have walkabouts at least three or four times during the summer.  Please post suggestions for good places to visit on the APLCC forum under the catergory  "Where to shoot".  I will post information on the website and will send a newsletter about upcoming walkabouts.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the June 2nd walkabout.

APLCC News -- May 6, 2012

APLCC MEETING APRIL 26

Thanks to everyone who came out to the April 26 meeting. It was great to see Rob Brown's photographic creations and hear a bit about his workflow.

TWO MEETINGS IN THE MONTH OF MAY

Since we didn’t have the opportunity to critique the "Spring" entries for April's Monthly Challenge on April 26, I have arranged for us to meet twice in May to go over these entries. There was some consensus during the meeting that we should meet on May 24 for the additional meeting. Unfortunately, the room is already booked for that date but I did manage to book the Magna Room for May 17 between 7-9 p.m. I’ll send out reminders closer to the dates of May’s meetings: May 17 and May 31st.

WALKABOUT #2

The next walkabout will be at Fairy Lake and on Main Street, Newmarket, on June 2. As before, we’ll meet at 10 a.m. at the Tim Horton's on Wellington (304 Wellington Street East), next to St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic School, in Aurora. Rides to Newmarket can be arranged at that time for those who need them.

To get a count of the people who would like to participate, I've set up a signup page. You can get to the signup page by going to the Registration #2 in the main menu under “Calendar.” There will also be a block linking to the signup page on the APLCC homepage.  Please be aware that you need to be logged in to register.

MONTHLY CHALLENGE FOR MAY

The May Monthly Challenge is "Abandoned/Used Up” and there are already some excellent submissions on the site. So check them out and upload yours whenever you like!

I'm looking forward to seeing you all on May 17.

Regards,

Ronen
