APL Camera Club November Monthly Challenge

Hi Everyone,

The next meeting of the APL Camera Club is fast approaching and will be on November 28, less than two weeks from now.

This is a reminder to please upload images for November's Monthly Challenge.  At this point only one image has been submitted which means we need a lot more submissions before the meeting!  The November challenge is "Anything and Everything" which basically leaves it wide open.  So go out and take some creative photos and upload them to the Monthly Challenge Gallery.

When taking your photos keep in mind the techniques of good composition that we discussed at last month's meeting.  Try to apply two to three of these techniques to your photos.  To refresh your memory on what we discussed you can take a look at the PowerPoint from last month's meeting.

Looking forward to seeing all your images.

Cheers,

Ronen

Zombie Walkabout Addendum

Hi Everyone,

After sending the previous newsletter (Zombie Walkabout and November Challenge) it occurred to me that I did not put the date of the walkabout anywhere in the newsletter.

The walkabout is scheduled for this coming Saturday, October 26.  This walkabout was a bit impromptu and consequently not a lot of lead time was given.  I do apologize for that.  If you wish to participate please sign up ASAP.

Take care.

Zombie Walkabout & Monthly Challenge

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to all who came to the first meeting of the 2013 - 2014 season.  It was good to see all of you.

ZOMBIE WALKABOUT

The first walkabout of the new season will be to the Zombie Walk Toronto parade, on Saturday October 26.  This is an annual event, which is apparently a lot of fun and has lots of photographic opportunities.  If you're interested in finding out more about this event before committing yourself to the walkabout you can go to the official Toronto zombie Walk website.

The Zombie Walk parade starts at 3:00 pm at Nathan Phillips Square which means that we don't have to be there until about 2:00 pm.

The plan is to meet at 12:30 pm at the Tim Horton's on Wellington (304 Wellington Street East), next to St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic School, in Aurora.  Depending on the number of people who sign up we will take one or two cars and park at the Finch subway.  From there we'll just take the subway down to Nathan Phillips Square.  After getting our fill of zombie photos we can go out and get a bite to eat and then make our way home.  I would estimate that we can be back home by around 8:00 pm.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS WALKABOUT PLEASE VERIFY YOUR INTENTION TO PARTICIPATE BY REGISTERING HERE.  Be aware that you will not be able to see the signup form until you are logged into your account.

APL Camera Club -- Change of Date for First Meeting

Hello Everyone,

First of all I'd like to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

Because of an unforeseen circumstance, please note that the first meeting of the APL Camera Club is going to be held on Monday October 21st, instead of Thursday October 24th.  It will still be held at the same place and the same time, the Lebovic Room of the Aurora Public Library between 7-9pm.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the first meeting.

All the best.

The Passing of Beverley Will

Hello Everyone,

It's with deep regret that I must inform you of the passing of Beverley Will, a devoted APL Camera Club member from day one.

Beverley was committed to learning the art of photography and was there at every meeting and every walkabout.  She will be missed.

There will be a memorial service for Beverley at the Aurora Seniors' Centre, located at 90 John West Way.  The service will be held between 5 and 7pm on Sunday, August 25th.  This will be an informal gathering and all are welcome.

APL Camera Club August 10 Walkabout

Hi Everyone,

This newsletter is a reminder that the next APL Camera Club walkabout will take place on August 10.

This walkabout will be to two places -- Guildwood Park and Bluffers Park.

Guildwood Park is a waterfront park and woodland area west of Guild Inn and contains a mature forest and pleasant walking trails, historic stone sculptures and arches. The interesting attractions are popular for  photography.

Bluffers Park is a great place to come to when you are looking for a quiet secluded area along the waterfront of east Toronto.  The bluffs are actually quite impressive visually and there is a nice walking trail below the bluffs that lead through the park as well as some of the naturalized areas in between the cliffs and the park.

The plan is to meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Tim Horton's on Wellington (304 Wellington Street East), next to St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic School, in Aurora. Please let me know ahead of time if you need a ride and I will do my best to arrange one.

We will spend a couple of hours at Guildwood Park, break for lunch at Aunty Mary's restaurant located nearby, and then proceed to Bluffers Park.  We will head back home around 4:30-5:00 p.m.

PLEASE VERIFY YOUR INTENTION TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS WALKABOUT BY REGISTERING HERE.  You will not be able to see the signup form until you are logged in.

Looking forward to seeing you all on August 10th.

APL Camera Club Summer 2013 Walkabouts

Hi everyone,

Now that summer is finally here it's time to get together for a couple of walkabouts.

I have two in mind -- one for July 13, and the other August 10.  There may be an impromptu walkabout another day, if time permits.

The July 13 walkabout will be to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burnlington.  For those of you who have never been there, the RBG is a wonderful place for photographers with numerous display gardens and all sorts of things to explore.  To get a sense of what the RBG are about,  visit the official website.  Admission price is $12.50

The August 10 walkabout will either be to graffiti alley in downtown Toronto, or to the Leslie Spit.  The one we'll go to will depend on feedback from members.

I set up a signup page for the Royal Botanical Gardens walkabout which you can get to from this link.  It is very important to signup if you are planning to attend.  You will need to log into your account to see the signup option.

As usual we will meet at the Tim Horton's on Wellington Street (next to St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic School).  The RBG opens at 10:00 a.m. I'd like to be there early so we'll meet at 8:30 a.m. and be on the road by 9:00 a.m.

See you on July 13!

APL Camera Club Meeting Reminder for May 30th, 2013

Hi Everyone,

This is a reminder that the APL Camera Club will have its last meeting of the season on May 30th between 7-9 p.m. in the Lebovic Room of the Aurora Public Library.  The following is on the agenda:

DON KOMARECHKA

A good part of the meeting will be devoted to a presentation by Don Komarechka, an extremely talented photographer especially known for his macro photography of snow flakes.  I have no doubt that Don's presentation will be insightful and extremely interesting.  Don has a very distinct approach to photography that is very inspiring and which gives a whole new perspective to the art of being a photographer.  Be prepared to be dazzled!

MONTHLY CHALLENGE

In an attempt to catch up with past challenges that have not yet been reviewed, I did not assign a monthly challenge for May.  Instead, please continue to submit images to last month's challenge which was New/Old.  There are quite a number of submissions in the category already but people who have not submitted anything yet are encouraged to do their best to submit an image.

We will spend whatever part of the May meeting remains after Don Komarechka's presentation critiquing the submissions from March (Repetition/Symmetry) and April (Old/New).

APLCC WALKABOUTS

The camera club will not be meeting formally during the months of June, July, and August.  I do plan, however, to have a number of walkabouts.  The following are some possible venues:
