APL Camera Club Meeting Reminder -- November 28, 2019

Hi Everyone,

Thank you to everyone who attended the first meeting on November 14.

As I mentioned then, we will be having two meetings this month with the next scheduled meeting being on November 28 between 7-9pm in the Magna Room of the Aurora Public Library.

Given the close proximity of the two meetings this month I suggest that we do something that we haven't done for a couple of years -- have a holiday social.  This will give us an opportunity to get reacquinted and chat with one another about our photographic adventures.  If you have any questions about photography gear, or if you're working on a photography project, come and share your ideas in an informal and friendly atmosphere.  We'll also have a Q & A session where people in the know may be able to answer your questions.

As far as food is concerned, what's a party without some snacks?  I suggest that everyone contribute a small snack-type food that we can munch on -- a bag of potatoe chips, cookies, whatever you see fit.  Be prepared to take whatever is left over back home with you.

I'm going to ask people for an RSVP just so that we know how many people we can expect.

DECEMBER MEETING

We will not be having a meeting in December, as it falls on Boxing Day.  The next official meeting after November 28 will be in January 2, 2020.

APL Camera Club Meeting Reminder -- November 14, 2019

Hi Everyone,

This is a quick reminder that the next APL Camera Club meeting will take place on Thursday November 14 between 7-9pm in the Magna Room of the Aurora Public Library.

The following items are on the agenda:

  1. Monthly Challenge  -- "Best Summer or Fall Photo of 2019".  The server is ready for your upload so bring on the best photo that you took this past summer or fall.
  2. Presentation & Discussion -- The problem of motivation.  Strategies for getting motivated to go out and take some photographs when feeling uninspired.
  3. Presentation -- Topaz Studio 2 and creative post-processing.
  4. Photographer of the Month -- Weegee.

Since we're starting so late this year I changed the Monthly Challenge topic from "Best Summer Photo" to "Best Summer or Fall Photo of 2019".  So if you haven't submitted an image yet, please do so ASAP.  If you're unclear on how to upload your image to the server, here's a link that will walk you through the process.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday November 14.

Regards,

Ronen & the APL Camera Club Steering Committee

Apl Camera Club First Meeting of Season Reminder -- November 14, 2019

Hi Everyone,

I hope you've all had a great summer.  Now that we're into October it's time to think about the APLCC's first meeting of the season, which is scheduled to be held on November 14, 2019.  The reason for the late start is because officially the first meeting was scheduled to be on the 31st of October, Halloween night.  In order to avoid any conflicts or issues with people who need to stay home for Halloween we decided to move the first meeting to the 14th of November.

Here's what's on the agenda for the first meeting:

  1. Monthly Challenge  -- "Best Summer Photo".  The server is ready for your upload so bring on the best photo that you took this summer.
  2. Presentation -- The problem of motivation.  Strategies for getting motivated to go out and take some photographs when feeling uninspired.
  3. Presentation -- Topaz Studio 2 and creative post-processing.
  4. Photographer of the Month -- TBA.

FREE LIGHTROOM WORKSHOP

On October 17  between 6:30 and 8:30 pm Rafael Payan will be leading a hands-on workshop on Adobe CC Lightroom at the Aurora Public Library.  This session is completely free of charge and should help you get all the basics that you'll need to get up and running with Adobe Lightroom.  If you wish to attend you'll need to register ASAP as seating is limited.  Here's a link to the library's website for more information.

APL Camera Club -- Have A Wonderful Summer 2019

Hi Everyone,

The APL Camera Club steering committee wants to thank everyone for participating in this season's APL Camera Club and wish you all a wonderful and fun summer.

And for those of you who attended the last meeting of the season and brought a snack for everyone to munch on, thank you for taking the time and making the effort.  It's much appreciated!

Don't forget that the summer is a great time for photography.  So get out there and take some amazing photographs.  And speaking of getting out and photographing, here's the "Monthly Challenge" for the summer.  We're going to make one easy, and the other a little more difficult.  You can choose to do one, or do both if you want.  Here they are:

  • EASY -- SUMMER FUN
  • MORE DIFFICULT -- A NEW PERSPECTIVE

So again, have a wonderful summer, and we hope to see you all in the fall.

Regards,

Ronen and the APL Camera Club Steering Committee

APL Camera Club Meeting Reminder -- May 30, 2019

Hi Everyone,

The final meeting before the summer break will take place on May 30th between 7-9 pm in the Magna Room of the Aurora Public Library.

For this final meeting, Steve Rose, a naturalist and bird photographer will be speaking to the club about his photographic adventures. Steve Rose has travelled the world to capture its natural beauty.  Here is a link to his website for a sampling of some of his images:

https://stevenrose.zenfolio.com/

http://www.stevenrosephotography.com/

As you can see from these photographs, there is no doubt that we're going to be in for a treat hearing some of the stories that have led to the creation of these images.

Given the special nature of this meeting I'm asking everyone to send me a quick RSVP so I can properly accomodate the seating arrangements, as well as give Steve Rose some indication as to how many people he can expect.

Also, since this is the final meeting of the season, the Steering Committee was thinking that we would have snacks as well as a bit of a social for the final half hour or so of the meeting.  For this, I'm asking each person to bring some small snack item.  If everyone brings one thing we will have more than enough for our summer farewell social.

Looking forward to getting your RSVP, and if you can also give me an indication as to what you might bring for the social.

Regards,

Ronen and the APLCC Steering Committee

I hope that you're all settling comfortably into 2019.

This is just a quick reminder that the next APL Camera Club meeting will be held on January 31, 2019 between 7-9 pm in the Magna Room of the Aurora Public Library.

If you're not aware of this, our own Rick Armstrong currently has an exhibition on display at the Aurora Public Library's Colleen Abbott Gallery.  Rick has done an incredible job producing these images as well as making all the frames himself, from mostly reclaimed wood.  Here's a link to the library's website for more information

On another note, the Monthly Challenge for January 31 is "Black & White" photography.  Your goal is to take an image and convert it to a black and white photograph using your tool of choice.  For this Monthly Challenge please upload the colour image as well as the black and white image so that we can compare the two during the critique.  The Monthly Challenge Gallery is all ready to receive your images.

If you're having any issues uploading your images to the Monthly Challenge Gallery please let me know at reelstories@rogers.com and I will be happy to help you sort it out.

Looking forward to seeing all your amazing images.
